Advent 2017

Advent and Christmas Services

peace has come

“And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory as of a father’s only son, full of grace and truth.”  -John 1:14

With the arrival of God into our world comes the peace, love, joy, and hope we all long for. God coming in the flesh is the marker of our faith and truth we cling to as we live as faithful disciples. Join us for worship this Advent as we share the many ways Jesus dwells among us and brings peace to our lives. In a world full of struggle, Christ comes bringing all we need to live in hope.

Sunday, Dec. 17th (10:00 a.m.) ~ 3RD SUNDAY OF ADVENT: JOY

Choir Cantata and gingerbread house extravaganza

Please join the OPPC Chancel Choir in worship on December 17th as they present: Peace Has Come, a musical retelling of the Christmas Story by Mary McDonald. The biblical concept of peace does not focus on the absence of trouble. God’s peace is unrelated to circumstances; it is a goodness of life that is not touched by what happens on the outside. In Peace Has Come, we follow the journey of those who experienced that first Christmas night and found peace in a new and fresh way. In the process, the listener is challenged to lay aside those illusions which promise peace and embrace the Giver of true peace and abundant life.

After the Choir Cantata on Dec. 17, from 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall, be prepared to build the gingerbread house of your dreams!  Winners will be chosen by an expert panel of judges and awards will be given out.  Come for a time of fun, creative, and friendly fellowship.  Please bring a bag of “house building” candy to share.  Graham Crackers and frosting will be provided.

Sunday, Dec. 24th ~ 4TH SUNDAY OF ADVENT: LOVE

DSHS Giving Tree

DSHS Giving Tree.PNG

As a part of our OPPC outreach to the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS), we will host a Giving Tree as our Christmas Mission.  The tree will be in the narthex from mid-November thru mid- December and will have tags requesting items that DSHS has on a Wish List at Amazon. These will NOT just be Christmas gifts, but rather items that are needed year-round for the foster children who come through the DSHS office in Crossroads.

Please pick a tag from the Christmas tree in narthex and either bring the unwrapped item back to the tree by mid-December, OR go online to Amazon and order that item from the DSHS Wish List on Amazon (Bellevue SHPC2).  Let’s make it a GREAT new year for the hard-working folks at our neighborhood DSHS!
